Covers roughly 6 months when making 2 to 3 batches per week

Each yogurt base contains:

  • 4 capsules of Limosilactobacillus reuteri (5 billion CFU each)
  • 1 capsule Lactobacillus gasseri (12 billion CFU each)
  • 2 capsules of Bacillus coagulans (4 billion CFU each)

A total of 7 capsules per batch.

L. reuteri grows slowly and requires prebiotics such as inulin and mild temperatures. It develops best at approximately 37–42 °C.

L. gasseri ferments reliably under suitable conditions. It prefers a low-oxygen environment and temperatures around 37–42 °C.

B. coagulans is a heat-stable spore-forming organism. It only becomes active at temperatures above approximately 40 °C and requires an environment of approximately 41–43 °C.

The optimal fermentation temperature of about 41 °C represents a good compromise: it is warm enough to activate all three strains involved (L. reuteri, L. gasseri, B. coagulans) – especially B. coagulans, which prefers higher temperatures – and at the same time gentle enough so that L. reuteri is not damaged.

Three key strains, one powerful microbiome support

The starter set contains Limosilactobacillus reuteri, a clearly defined lost species – a microbial species that is often greatly reduced or almost extinct in modern Western intestinal ecosystems.

Although Lactobacillus gasseri is less common than before and is rare in many Western microbiomes without external supply, it is not considered a classic lost species.

Bacillus coagulans is not an intestinal bacterium in the strict sense, but rather a spore-forming soil bacterium that only occasionally occurs in the intestine. It is not a lost species, but rather a rare, introduced species with special stabilizing properties for the intestine.

This combination combines a classic Lost Species with rare but proven strains for targeted and versatile support of your microbiome.

3-strain yogurt: L. reuteri, L. gasseri & B. coagulans

This special combination combines the lost species Limosilactobacillus reuteri with the rare, health-promoting species Lactobacillus gasseri and Bacillus coagulans to create a powerful yogurt that goes far beyond classic probiotics.

All three strains support the microbiome in different ways and act via the gut-brain axis throughout the body, including by demonstrably sending chemical messengers from the gut to the brain. L. reuteri, for example, stimulates the release of oxytocin , the "bonding and healing hormone," which has far-reaching effects on mood, sleep, muscle development, and immune regulation.

Their targeted use can trigger processes that many users describe as life-changing.

With the starter set you can prepare your own 3-strain yogurt – fresh, high-dose and without additives.

For a yogurt starter, the following cultures are used in this combination:

  • Limosilactobacillus reuteri
At least 5 to 20 billion CFU are required.
    → 4 capsules of 5 billion CFU = 20 billion CFU
  • Lactobacillus gasseri
    High dosage and easily fermentable.
    → 1 capsule of 12 billion CFU = 12 billion CFU
  • Bacillus coagulans
Heat and gastric acid stable spore former.
    → 2 capsules of 4 billion CFU = 8 billion CFU

What happens when you reattach?

Ready-made yogurt can be used as a starter multiple times. However, the culture can change over several generations. Spontaneous mutations, contamination, or the selection of faster-growing subspecies can lead to a decline in effectiveness. Dr. William Davis, who developed the method, recommends starting fresh with new capsules after at least 20 batches. This preserves the physiological activity of the bacteria.

Why 20 generations?

Food microbiological studies show that lactic acid bacteria can undergo genetic changes after about 10 to 30 passages.

These changes arise through spontaneous mutations, natural selection, or contamination. They can lead to a decline in certain health-promoting properties.

The following applies to our 3-strain yogurt:

  • L. reuteri is particularly sensitive to genetic changes and, over time, loses its ability to stimulate central neurotransmitters such as oxytocin. Regular rebooting is crucial to maintaining its physiological activity.
  • L. gasseri is robust and ferments reliably, but can lose activity if reused too frequently as the population adapts and becomes less diverse.
  • B. coagulans is a resistant spore-forming organism, but even here the number of germs can decrease with repeated reuse, since optimal conditions for spore germination cannot be permanently guaranteed.

We therefore recommend a fresh start with new capsules after 20 attempts at the latest to ensure that the bacteria can develop their full effect – as originally intended.

Scientific Interest in L. reuteri, L. gasseri, and B. coagulans

Limosilactobacillus reuteri

Studies show that L. reuteri can colonize the gut and support the microbiome. It promotes short-chain fatty acid production, modulates the immune system, and has anti-inflammatory effects. Via the gut-brain axis, it may increase oxytocin production and improve sleep, mood, skin health, and body composition (e.g., Buffington et al., 2016; Mu et al., 2018).

Lactobacillus gasseri

L. gasseri is associated with reduced abdominal fat, immune support, and promoting a healthy vaginal microbiome (Kadooka et al., 2010; Sawada et al., 2016).

Bacillus coagulans

As a spore-former, B. coagulans survives stomach acid and bile. It may help ease digestive issues, support the immune response, and improve recovery from physical exercise (Majeed et al., 2016; Jensen et al., 2010).

Our starter set is suitable for anyone who wants to use their yogurt specifically to support their gut, immune system and psyche.

For all those who want to consciously bring L. reuteri, L. gasseri and B. coagulans, rare or displaced species, back into their everyday lives – with clear effects and uncompromising quality.
